Skype on 3

Is it a gimick, or is it worth using? Has anyone been using it?

 

Now its free on all Three tariffs I have installed it but have no idea if I will ever use it

Pretty much what I thought, I just wondered if anyone would actually use this, it seems clunky on the phone.

The notable thing about it is that it uses a standard phone circuit to handle your call as far as three, and then it goes VOIP and through Skype. Which means that it's still usable if you don't have good 3G reception, but means the sound quality is no better than a regular phone call, so the benefits of clearer calls you get with Skype with a headset don't apply.

Can I just say that this is the best thing Ive used in a long time, from my point of view.

 

Bing in australia, the cost of calling home is a big issue for me

 

I can use my laptop, and my skype account on that, and call my old man on his skype account, which will ring his 3 mobile (Cost £0)

 

I can use my aus mobile, dial a local aus skype number, dial my old mans skype name, which will ring his mobile (Cost £0 - comes off my free local minutes)

 

I can also dial the same access number, and then dial my sisters mobile in the USA using my skype minutes (Cost £0 - comes off my free local minutes + £0.017p/m to the USA)

 

Also, in the reverse, Ive bought a local glasgow number, which anyone back home can phone, either using their free minutes on a mobile, or using most of the telco's free local calls, to phone, which will ring my skype on my laptop. If im not online, it will forward to my Aus mobile, using my skype credit (Cost - caller £0, me £0.09p/m if It goes to my mobile)

 

I must admit, that Skype is pretty damn awesome for what we use it for.

problem is not enough people are using skype on mobile phone. tried it and I found it to be very clinky. So I ditched it

as jinnantonnix says above, I think the only thing advantageous is the international aspect.

 

All plans in the UK now have free minutes cross network so using skype is pointless.
