Is anyone here using or testing Xenserver 5 with the new Sun 7110 SAN apparently it doesn't work with all SAN devices.

Also anyone using xenserver 5 on the Sunfire X4150 units?

One of our suppliers asked " we need to know the specification of what make (chipset) of NIC and HBA comes in the Sun Fire X4150".

Anyone help with this as we don't have the units yet.

Using XenServer 5 Enterprise on 2x Sun 4440 (4x Quad-core OPteron HE, 32GB RAM) and using iSCSI, NFS and CIFS for files off a 7110.

Ahh I thought i'd read somewhere that you were using Xen. I'll get in touch with Cutter to see if the X4150 use similar NIC's as the 4440.

I've been for a XEN demo at Novus this morning and i'm impressed with the features especially when seen in action. Can I ask how many network cards you have in your Sun boxes and how they're configured.

No rush for an answer ;)

Cheers.

I've just installed XenServer 5 on our lovely new X4150's. Haven't been able to connect them up to the 7110 yet, or test it properly (waiting on some AC so our lovely new servers don't fry when we switch them on!), but Xen installed fine (I did it from home in the middle of the night using the built in IP KVM and DVD-image redirection!) and XenCenter connects fine.

According to XenCenter the X4150's have 2 x Intel 80003E2S2LAN Gigabit Ethernet Controllers and 2x Intel 82571EB Gigabit Ethernet Controllers :)

I've managed to test Xenserver 5 on an X4150, with VMs stored on the Sun S7000 simulator via iSCSI.

Works with no problems here. :)

I am using XenServer 5 update 3 on 2 x4150 + sun 7410 with 12TB on double parity raid.

What I cant get to work is chap authentication for iscsi.

Also, I tried NFS to create a SR and access controls dont seem to work. As soon as you add an access control it disappears. I tested an iscsi target on a regular linux box and it works flawlessly.

Does someone any workarounds for chap authentication?

I tried creating a new initiator alias in the storage cli, manual discovery from xenserver cli but no luck.

Thanks,

Adam

Hoping to have a pair of X4150s and a pair of 7110s delivered any day now! Will be installing ESXi on one 4150 and Xen Server 5 on the other. Will be experimenting and performance testing with iSCSI and NFS.
