Announcing the Learning Gateway User Group

Today gives me the pleasure to announce the Learning Gateway User Group.

 

A online community for you to share your experiences with the Microsoft Learning Gateway in your school.

 

If you want to talk about the hard work you have put in for your school, the web parts you have created or just want to show off how yours looks than this is for you.

 

You can also sent up a blog for your school and show the different areas that have been created by staff and pupils.

 

Please have a look and register so you can hear some of the future announcements.

I'm guessing he means Microsoft Learning Gateway as opposed to the Learning Gateway User Group.

 

It'd be handy if people would always use its full name too, as I was expecting a post about SIMS Learning Gateway and you let me down!

Is Sims a learning gateway or a set of webparts?

Capita has both SLG2 is a collection of web parts that connect to SIMS .net but Capita also make a VLE/VLP system too around about £5000 a year I think to use the VLE/VLP not so much for the webparts an initial bg lump sum then maintenance fees thereafter.

SIMS Learning Gateway is a basic sharepoint install with a number of web parts in a structure to allow easy use and access to SIMS data.

 

Microsoft Learning Gateway is designed round a full sharepoint implementation and makes use of a series of standard templates designed to allow for such things as class sites, students to see all their assignments etc.

 

A Learning Gateway on Sharepoint is what ever works for you and your school .... that is what I want to see, not what is prescribed ... or how people have taken what is given to them and improved it.

Great work Alex. Hopefully we can get some traction going with this and now I've taken over the project co-ordinator role for SLK & the CodePlex MLG.

 

Grumbledook sums it up nicely, except I don't believe that you need to use the standard templates to have a Learning Gateway. In fact I would go so far as to say don't use the CodePlex MLG site definitions, there's various issues with them, the potential upgrade path to the next version of SharePoint being most on my mind.
