DAckroyd Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 How can they not be developing it any more?!?! I've got ELBS tests coming up and surely I haven't done all this work for them to pack it in?!?!
Iain.Faulkner Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 That's what they told me on friday, albeit after they'd passed me round about 3 different departments and I'd spoken to several people who potentially had never heard of Microsoft, let alone Server 2008.
moggy Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 I've sent RM an e-mail asking for clarification, but I won't be holding my breathe! I can't see how they can not support 2008 in the future since their website talks about the new GCSE, City & Guilds and Functional tests which are coming in 2009/2010 and onwards. See AQA On-screen tests. If I get any sense out of RM I'll post it here.
DAckroyd Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 ooh... having great fun with this crud here... we've imported pupils the way it says to using Census file and it put the wrong first names with the last names - about 20hours til the GCSE requires this working and I'm nowhere again!!!
DAckroyd Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Is it worrying that I now know the phone number for RM QCA helpdesk off the top of my head?!?
Iain.Faulkner Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Is it worrying that I now know the phone number for RM QCA helpdesk off the top of my head?!? I had the same thought when I realised I knew the HP Customer Services phone number by heart
DAckroyd Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Just tried to start a GCSE on this software and we failed - kids are now doing paper tests
moggy Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I finally got a reply from RM regarding Server 2008. Here it is as promised: Thank you for your recent email and apologise for the delay in responding. Unfortunately Windows Server 2008 isn't currently supported. For further details on the technical specification please follow the link below. KS3 ICT Website Please note the website is branded QCA as it is the QCA KS3 ICT Assessment Task software that we use to run our on-screen tests. There you have it for what it's worth.
DAckroyd Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 I don't understand why it shouldn't work on server 2008 - what is so different?
powdarrmonkey Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Todays test was unsucessful Well I'm not surprised, considering it's still officially unsupported
DAckroyd Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Well I'm not surprised, considering it's still officially unsupported it's not the server end that's unsupported - the tests wouldn't download to the workstations even though they have been avalible scince monday - why do they not just scrap it already? Has anyone been sucessful with the ELBS GCSE's on the computer?
powdarrmonkey Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 it's not the server end that's unsupported - the tests wouldn't download to the workstations even though they have been avalible scince monday - why do they not just scrap it already? How does that square with this quote from them? Unfortunately Windows Server 2008 isn't currently supported. Since the tests get pulled to the workstations from the server, not from the outside world, I'd expect nothing to work at all.
russdev Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 I will be honest what you find is first year use the software you think it is nightmare and this is mainly due to getting you head around A how it works and B ironing some local issues which never going to see until you run the tests. This is something I did few years back for it when it KS3 tests. Lets Get Ready KS3 ICT SATS Test Most of it applies when running it as GCSE test. Russ
DAckroyd Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 How does that square with this quote from them?. I'm having to run a 2003 server - I have 2k8 ready but not working (unless I deleted it)
powdarrmonkey Posted June 4, 2009 Posted June 4, 2009 Ah, I didn't see you say that you'd swopped it, sorry.
DAckroyd Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Had an exam today and for the first time this year it worked!!!... Appart from one person now has No Contact next to his name under current session status - any ideas what that means?
Valentine Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Just click HELP in the page where you run the session, it says what all the status commands mean. Also i did chuckle this morning during the exam when i was looking up what to do if a students pc crashed, the help even tells you what to do if you have a bomb scare or a gas leak

I'll have to read through that stuff on monday when I'm doing our final exam (hopefully)
