Any Good??

Are these any good?? I need quick network in the front room for PS3, has anybody tried ethernet over power? or should I just run a cable?

Running a cable would probably be better, from what I have heard from friends these never live up to expectations! Also, your electric cabling must be fairly new.

I thought that might be the case with the cabling, I don't think mine is that new

I use it at home with no problems.

 

The main thing that I found was that Netplugs set to 85MPs only ran at 40ish on my cabling(20 years Old.)

 

I now use mine to send the Virgin media ethernet from the modem (at the front of the house) to my router (in the centre of the house.)

I've not used the ones you linked, but i've used these - Extra Value 85Mbps Powerline Homeplug Adapter - Twin Pack - Ebuyer - They are fantastic. You really wouldn't know the difference between CAt5/6 or these. I can sit anywhere in my house that has one of these and get 6 or 7meg comfortably (I only ever get up to 7meg in to my house!)

are you using PS3 inside the house Ie 2 PS3's or do you want to use them to allow the PS3 access to the internet for online gaming??

 

If the second then what is the speed of your internet connection if less than 40Mg then the netplugs will be fine!!

I can recommend it as an option.

 

At home I use the DLINK PowerLine Adapter Kit DHP-303 - rated very highly by Computer Shopper magazine - as I couldn't be bothered to run cat5e through a load of walls and ceilings.

 

My Xbox 360 is connected to my Sky BB this way.

 

I have also used it as a solution elsewhere.

 

Work a treat and no problems at all - house wiring dates from 1977.

I'm will be streaming media from my NAS box so it will be connected to my router.....40MG connections I could only dream! no i've got a 10mg virginmedia connection which dare I say it has been quite reliable of late
