Intresting Fronter Problem

This is the problem we have at our school. We have a websense box that is supplyed by the LEA. This has the same settings as other secondary schools with in the county. We are all having fronter forced upon us from LEA level.

 

The problem our school is having is that it takes about 5 minutes for fronter to load using internet explorer (version 6 & 7), but if we try using firefox with the same proxy settings and proxy bypass settings it takes about 5 seconds, which is a lot better. Deploying firefox across the school is not a solution.

 

Has anybody seen this or got any ideas on what could be causing this?

not had that issue, we are using IE6 here. Fronter is slow but not that slow here. Is it the same across board or is it limited to a few machines?

Hi Jamo,

 

Its across the board with different users, the only user account that it works fine under is mine, and I am guessing that is because my account is set a super administrator of the websense box which allows unfiltered web access.

If you haven't already try whitelisting fronter. We had to do this on our Cache Pilot to help the speed.

Also trying to cache fronter is a mistake as apparently all the pages are created dynamically upon access.

Fronter is https so caching is not any use.

 

For IE v Firefox problem check your Add-on we found that the sophos plugin slowed our browser right down. tools/manage Add-on/enable or disable Add-ons

is websense sitting on ISA server?

 

is the fronter server hosted locally?

 

What happens if you put the fronter site in unfiltered in websense?
