Change UPS Battery

Hi

 

We have an APC 3000 UPS. The battery is dead. I am just about the change it but do i need to unplug the UPS from the mains or can i keep everything running while i change it?

I'm fairly sure you can leave the supply and the load connected whilst changing the battery - they're hot-swap. We have done a number of APC devices this way without any issue. Just hope you don't get a power cut in the middle of the proces....!!

Me a scaredy cat too. Uplugged mine, but im lucky enough to have one running next to it that could take an extra server without being overloaded.

 

Remember i asked about swapping them and someone mentioned they swell? They werent joking!! Had to get a MAN to do it in the end!!! Pah!!!

erm they are in a store cupboard we are leaving it for BSF to deal with

How hot are they getting? I've never seen this happen over many years with ups batteries, even in quite warm rooms.

Just has ours replaced in our incredibly meaty ups after a aircon failure caused them to swell.

 

Mind you, it was blummin hot...

I think heat was to blame for our batteries swelling. Before i arrived at the school the servers etc were moved into a cupboard with poor ventilation and cooling. So i wouldnt be suprised if that was the reason!

Even if you don't purchase from them they will collect your used bulbs free of charge. I haven't used them yet but plan on doing so very soon. I called and sorted out what i need to do but not got round to it yet

I changed the battery at the time of the first post. This morning the UPS is showing a red light still. How do i get rid of it please?

We need to get shut of a load of lamps, but on simplylamps website it says they will only collect lamps they have supplied

Give simplylamps a call. The guy at Bett told me that they would collect any bulbs whether they had supplied them or not. The lady i spoke to also said that they would collect mine. They didn't supply mine either. The wheels are already in motion but i have yet to get them boxed a to arrange collection.
