Firewire, XPSP2 and Dell Latitude 510

We have had a strange problem with firewire on our newer Dell Laptops. When we connect our Digital Camcorder the 'found new hardware' appears, camera connects and the pop up box come s up from windows asking you what you want to do. As soon as you click on a option the box disappears and the camera appears no longer connected.

 

I googled and found a issue with 3 firewire drivers on SP2, it said over write these files with the SP1 ones. So i found the files and over wrote them. It worked on one of the laptops, but as soon as i did it on another one it did not. I can't understand how it worked on one and not the other as the laptops are identical.

 

 

Has anyone had any firewire issues with Dell 510 laptops or any other Dell come to that.
