Does anyone use TS RemoteApps internally to be an app store so you dont have to install on all your machines.

Does it work out well doing this or would you recommend just installing locally?

Microsoft App-V is much better if you only want to stream applications without installation, I have tired RemoteApp and its very good but you need the backend servers to be beefy if high concurrent usage unlike App-V!

RemoteApp is just a seamless terminal server session. It all depends on what you want to do really. If you want to go down the centralised working method (ie. terminal server) then RemoteApps will work fine. If you want to streamline the delivery of applications which will run on the clients anyway then App-V is what you want.

We have multiple applications that rely on services provided by different servers to run. An example would be Sibleius requires a license check before it loads the application. When we change the license service to another server. We then have to tell the clients that this has changed. Sometimes this is just a registry change that can be done in a startup script.

The aim is to have a place where as many applications are installed as poissible. And for users to use the centrally installed application rathere than the programme being installed on every machine in the school.

That’s a very similar reason we used App-V it also allows us to run multiple versions of software on the same machine without conflict.

Also running programs like Sibelius over RemoteApp will provide some interesting problems when you come to connection sound devices for example as your running the program on the server not at the client.

Sibelius was just an example I have not tried to do anything yet.

What software/hardware do you need to get started with App-V?

Rob, have you used App-V in a big way at all? I am very very curious as I had a play with similar software ages ago but had little success.

We are thinking of RemoteAPP for possibly testing office 2007 for staff until its deployed.
