DirectX argghh !!!

We have a DirectX problem... two tables with Dell GX620 with ATI radeon x600 128mb Graphics cards.. Same ghost image on all computers (all be it a couple of months old). One table directX works fine the other only has directdraw running and not direct3d according to dxdiag. I've tryed uninstalling drivers and getting the latest one form the web and I've reinstalled directx 9.0c from M$. obviously I can reimage the computers but I would like to know why it's gone pear shaped and if there is a quick fix incase it happens again... funnily enough the old gx240 work a treat.

Not sure how much this helps but what about direct X eradicator :

Then try and re install it after a restart ( obviously )

I would try:

remove directx

remove video drivers

reinstall video drivers

reinstall directx

 

I have noticed issues with the radeon x600 drivers. Not sure its linked but worth a try

I've encountered this quite a few times over various chipsets. I'm still baffeld. I was putting it down to certain programs buggering things up. It's very stange though, only certain machines are affected, whilst others of the same type remain fine.

thanks for this unfortuatly direct x was so currupted it could be removed so I've reimaged and crossed my fingers
