battery life sucks. Thats about the only bad thing that I find.

otherwise fine. The G2 is also available (from vodaphone) it doesn't have the pullout keyboard so may be more sturdy as a result.

Slight annoyance with the GPS is that it relies on google maps, therefore a 3G signal. when lost in countryside that isn't much help. no doubt there is an app that overcomes this though.

 

The software/freeness of the G1 is it's killer app, what it doesn't do out of the box it soon does after searching the marketplace. Theres nothing like knowing your phone has a linux kernel, and is a hackable computer

GPS seemed ok to me, but I don't have much to compare it to. I used it all day on a charity cycle ride on Sunday and it mapped my location pretty well throughout the ride, it managed to workout my times etc:

You need to be outdoors to get a good gps signal though.

 

battery depends on what you do, wi-fi and gps run the battery down quickly (in a day).

surfing the internet will run it down quicker (probably in 3 or 4 hrs). I guess watching video will be worse, but no worries when using as a phone. I understand teh G2 has better battery, and that there are plenty of extended batteries available for the G1

Well I've had a G1 for three months now and I love it to bits.

 

The battery life at the beginning was a bit of a shock but that was because I had everything turned on and was spending every spare moment fiddling with it.

 

I purchased a second battery and usually leave it on charge overnight. I'm happy with it now.

 

The apps are great and the integration with everything Google is ace.

 

GPS is rock solid. I've used Google maps to navigate around a few towns on foot and it's easy to use.

 

Background apps - the ability is great.

 

Android Marketplace - loads of free stuff.

 

I've written a few apps myself for personal use.

 

And it's hackable as another poster has said!

Yes, USB - and it charges via USB.

 

No dedicated headphone socket. A set of headphones are provided and they plug into the same connector as for charging / data transfer.

It depends on what you are after the N95 had a better camera but the G1 has a hardware keyboard (which i wanted as i hate texting on a nomal phone pad)and the G1 seems faster than an N95.

The battery life is OK once you get used to it like others have said. The camera sucks though, no flash or even little led, no zoom and cant handle low light. In optimal conditions its fine anything else it doesn't like. But I have heard that it is actually better than the iPhones camera so cant be all that bad.

How does the touch screen on the G1 compare with that of the iPhone? I must admit that I really like the iPhone's screen, it's very responsive.
