got a rubbish VGA 19" wide screen Acer TFT and my samsung HD TV both connected to my early 2008 mac pro

mainly we swap around workstations so at least we have something good. recently, 1st time in years we got bought actual pcs as replacements.

generally I find it copes a lot better with more windows open but some specific applications can be oddly slow at times.

Might go back to 2 monitors soon though as there's 2 spare Dell 22" 2209WA's we bought as spares for the new photography suite we've just put in... they're too good to sit on the shelf waiting for use so will probably find their way onto my desk as part of our office refurb

 

Also built up some machines for our test network... 3 VM hosts on Server 2008 \ HyperV, for just over 400 quid we built...

Good enough for about 4-5 VMs per host... perfect for testing out new software before unleashing it on the live networks

Unless you have some special requirements, most people will be fine with

 

Core 2 duo / quad

4GB RAM

160GB+ HD drive

 

Personally I think that's fine for a work desktop.

For Virtualization I would rather have that running on another desktop / server and remote in.

Does this being ejectable mean that it doesn't assign drive letters until needed? how likely is the removable bit likely to be if put in someones office - or possibly worse - a classroom?

 

Do other people find that card readers in desktops assign letters all the time but laptop ones leave it until something is inserted? is there a way to combat this cos they always take out the H:\ drive

My desk currently consists of an NEC ML470 (E6750 / 2Gb / 120Gb) running 1x Yuraku 22" monitor... a 20" C2D 2.4Ghz iMac... and a Q6600 / 4Gb / 2Tb Raid / 8400GS / 2x Yuraku 22" silent-running box of my own assembly for Video Editing / Audio Production purposes.

 

 

Home PC is still a crappy old Clawhammer 3200 with ridiculous amounts of TECs strapped to it from days gone by... as shown yonder: http://www.over-clock.com/marci/2003ptII/
