Half-Dead Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Hello, i have finished creating a Moodle VLE but i dont know how to host it. The VLE was installed on my windows XP computer using the installation packages. Im left with a folder named server, a readme file and two executable files (start.exe & stop.exe). Any help will be greatly appreciated Thankyou!

kmount Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I'm not up to date on who provides free hosting etc which would be suitable but would urge you to pay a little and consider someone like CSNewMedia who will do you a basic package perfectly suitable for £29.50 a year. The next step would be to take a back of your moodle's database and resources and look at importing them into the new moodle. 1

If you host it externaly you're going to find it difficult to control the back-end of Moodle, perform upgrades, set up ldap authentication an easily/quickly make theme modifications and upload resources.
Half-Dead Posted April 17, 2009 Author Posted April 17, 2009 well at the moment i want to host it on a free external webhost such as 000webhost.com as it needs to be up and running in a day or two and im sure doing it this way is a quick and easy job. BEsides, hosting it internally at this stage will be impractical as i will then have to keep my computer on 24/7 for it to be available. What i want to know is, i have a webhost that does PHP and MySQL that i want to get it running on but again i dont know where to start haha. Cheers

You can either use your own domain name or you can have a subdomain on one of their domains... Obviously if you are wanting to run a big install then a pro hosting company or an internal box would be preferable but for some people this might be useful! Note: I have no affiliation with this company and just stumbled across them today and set up a test site everything seems to be as you would expect... Obviously you cannot install your own modules/themes but all the main ones are there... 1
