I'm looking at upgrading our mail server from something called Workgroupmail v7 to exchange 2003.

I was wondering if there are any tips on a fresh install of excahnge that you could give me so I don't mess it up. I don't want to be half way through and realise that my AD is not going to work again.

Is it a simple process like installing any other software, basically clicking next all the time and then clicking finish.

Being a newbie on exchange are there any tips on making it work. Is it quite quick to pick up and understand.

Make sure you do the schema upgrades, etc. There is a wizard-like checklist thing that can guide you though the process so that you don't miss anything out.

As Ric_ says, theres a checklist which guides you through each phase of the install. You need to do domainprep and forestprep to update your schema but it won't let you install Exchange without doing these steps so you can't mess it up.

Famous last words.

Once you have got your W2003 OS installed, make the server a member server.

If you log on as a domain admin when you install Exchange 2003, everything will go fine, forestprep etc will run no problem.
