Ghost and Multicasting

I'm having an absolute nightmare with Ghost and Multicasting...... Historically we have used unicast, but now I have some time I thought I would look at getting multicast working correctly.

 

I've (think) i've configured the switches correctly. We have an HP Core (5406zl) and HP Edge switches (2810). According the to manual on each vlan I should be typing "ip igmp" to enable it.

 

Then setting the ghost task to multicast.

 

When I run the task the client connects to the session and says "waiting for the ghostcast session to start" and the ghostcast server says "ghostcast in progress" - nothing ever happens.

 

Any ideas why or what i've missed

I think you need to turn on ip multicast-routing.

Have a look at the HPforums. There is a few good tips on there.

Can't enable it without the premium license and at £1500 it could be a stab in the dark!

Definitely sounds like an IGMP Snooping issue. Not totally understanding the "IP IGMP" command for the switches, I've never worked with HP. We have Nortel and DLink Layer 3 switches and completely disabling IGMP Snooping fixed our multicast issues.

This is what I hate about HP kit. Sell a switch then charge over the odds to make it useful.

 

Netgears on the other hand just work out of the box.

 

Can you bypass the expensive HP software and enable this feature via CLI?
