[ms office - 2003] Problems saving Publihser 2003 files

I've setup a "handin" folder for pupils to save work, but so they cannot delete it and i'm having a problem with them saving publisher files to it.

 

When they attempt to save a file they get an error, but the flle doesn't exist!

 

"The file already exists. Do you want to replace the existing file?"

 

If you click Yes, you get this error:

 

Cannot save . The folder is marked as read only. I've checked and the folder is no read only.

 

If you click No, the error goes away, but a 0KB PUB file is created but cannot be opened.

 

I've checked both share and NTFS permission and they are correct, I know this becuase I don't have problems saving any other office documents.

 

Any ideas?

I have the same set up, but instruct people they can't save directly to the folder and need to save to My Documents and then copy the file to the shared area (that way they always have the original copy too).

 

As I'm relatively happy I've never looked too deep in to it, but I assume it is because Publisher (and any other Office app) will save a temporary file in that directory prior to it saving the final version. Once the final version is saved it will look to delete the temporary version (which of course it can't becuase of permissions)

I could be wrong on that, but as I say I'm happy with the fact people can't save directly.

 

Another possibility you have is to add the permission for the Creator/Owner to be able to delete from there. This should let the UserX save direct but prevent UserZ from deleting UserX's file.

Thats it! I didn't realise Publisher saved files that way. Adding CREATOR OWNER works.
