mini macs and midi

anyideas on how to connect midi leads up to a mini mac what sort of extra equipment would i need.

Well I have used midi through the mini mac myself (though not for playing music). I brought a Line6 Pod XP ( essentially a usb sound card with a guitar amp simulator in it) that has midi connectors on it ( unless your talking about the game port ones which look like parallel cables, the pod has those circular ones)

What you need is a USB midi interface a reasonable two channel device about £60, (shop around) is the Midiman Midi Sport 2x2 USB midi interface, this works with both Mac and Windows, you will also need a pair of standard midi leads as these do not come with the interface. I've never really looked in their store to see what their selling but midman were the first producer to make a USB midi interface that worked with mac and was a reasonable price. This model infact, but if you need more outputs/inputs they do those aswell.

If you haven't already bought Midi keyboards for your macs you could but USB Midi compatible keyboards. I've recently bought a M-Audio Keystation 49e:

and its as simple as plugging it in a spare USB port and loading up garageband.

 

Midi to USB converters are ok, but I think the above is a better solution.
