Well I have used midi through the mini mac myself (though not for playing music). I brought a Line6 Pod XP ( essentially a usb sound card with a guitar amp simulator in it) that has midi connectors on it ( unless your talking about the game port ones which look like parallel cables, the pod has those circular ones) http://www.line6.com/podxt/ Maybe what your looking for
