Problem - external access to web server

I'm trying to publish a web server that I am playing with, but am having some problems. When I type in the url I get the following error.

The confusing thing is that I am running Apache not IIS. IIS was installed but was removed ages ago. Unfortunately formatting the server is not an option just yet

Type the IP address of the server and see if you get the same error.

Then IIS is installed on that machine

That's the same error being presented to you, your browser just handles it differently.

Right.......so how do I get rid of something that I can't see?? It's not in Administrative tools nor Services?

Sure you've got the IP address right? What is it?

do you have isa, and do you have IIS on your ISA server?

 

if you do, stop the service and test again. IIS takes precedence over any ISA listener.

This is not through the ISA server

Can you access the IIS manager through the MMC application if the snapin is there and see if it is setup to listen on port 80. After killing it you may need to restart apache to get it to pick up port 80. Do a search for iis.msc which is the snapin or acces it on a different computer and point it at the server to manage it.

 

You could also try setting apache up to listen on a different port (5050) just to test that it can be seen and accessing it like http://203.94.53.232:5050

Its not a problem with permissions on the IIS folder is it? Im not sure what the permissions need to be on IIS but I use www-data or "nobody" on apache / ubuntu then enable read/write access as required on it.

If IIS is capturing port 80, Apache should whinge about it in its logs - see if it has, then you know that you're not seeing things

Nope, can't get to it via MMC

Unfortunately due to a mongrel proprietory firewall box we have I can't allow external access via another port except 80.

 

 

It think that I will be starting from scratch with that server after the holidays. Have always wanted to play with Linux anyway so it might be a good excuse to do that.
