Thin Client Physical Security

We have had many comments from Edugeek'ers about physical security for thin clients, and as this is not an issue for "business" users, it is not something we had come up against in the past or had really considered.

 

David Carter at The Beacon School did not accept this and took matters into his own hands and designed and manufactured in the school metal shop a "second" bracket to compliment the standard Axel supplied VESA bracket.

 

The pictures hopefully say it all. The two silver screws at the bottom would be security screws. The new bracket prevents the TC from being slid upwards, so cannot clear the VESA bracket 'fingers'.

 

With the security screws undone the TC and security bracket all lift up together.

 

Simple and effective...

 

We'd be interested to know Axel user's views on this, and whether we should add this as an accessory, the price should be around £5.00/£6.00.

 

It would be compatible with both M70 and M80.

That's a genius bit of kit. Well done that man Carter.

 

Yes you need to make those brackets avaiable en masse - you may not have identified the above bracket as being required in your usual businesses you cater for - trust me school networks are far far more hostile than in any company you've ever been in. Security features are high up on the list for all schools, and indeed top of the list for many.

 

If you could get those made for £4 - you should, possibly even include it in the price of the unit. Frankly it's an extra reason for schools to go axel compared to every other thin client.

Looks great. We buy the HP ones which require an allen-type key to unlock the quick release, so I would've thought there'd be enough demand.

 

Beats my why on earth anyone would want to steal a thin client though - monitor maybe but not the client, they're useless anywhere else!

You're assuming theft for a reason, rather than just out of malice, boredom, curiousity, general vandalism, or stupidity.

And having just bought 60 - I can say they are jolly nice, and seem to be a step up from the Wyse terms that we were using - especially the management software!
