Hello,

 

I am trying to establish the bandwidth used by one of our servers. We have a VLE server in school sitting behind an ISA box. Is there a piece of software that will easily tell me how much data is being exchanged between the two?

You could run Wireshark: Go deep. and use some form of filter to figure out just the traffic between those 2 boxes.

I would use wireshark and the IO graphs and summary options within the statistics menu.

 

To get meaningful and eay to read results I would set the hopefully managed switch that the server is connected to to mirror the traffic to the machine that is running wireshark and then capute the traffic for say 5 mins of activity (if you capture for too long your machine will grind to a halt)

 

Then with the IO graphs and summary options will tell you the number of packets per second and the average size of the packets which you can then use to work out the actual data flowing in and out of the server.

Wireshark will do but it's probably overkill.

 

ISA server should be generating logs - you can just do a query against the logs; one of the columns is bytes transferred and you can just get a total per second, minute, hour whatever.

 

You could also use performance monitor on the VLE server and capture the data about network traffic.
