Mandatory Profiles/SYSVol

Does anyone keep their Mandatory Profiles in sysvol? Or tried and ended up regreting it?

 

The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to eliminate single points of failure in our network, if the profile can be loaded from any domain controller this should make things more reliable.

Look into DFS for your profiles - try to ensure that you set one server to be a prefered server, otherwise if you get the same users logged on in more than one place some of their files might "disappear" for a while.

This is your best option to reduce points of failure

I assume you're thinking of writable roaming profiles.

 

No data gets saved back to Mandatory Profiles (thank god, we've got one that used by about 700 different users).

 

EDIT: I assume I just use the %logonserver% when I specify the location of the user's profile.

I keep my student profile in the netlogon share but only reference an individual server allthough I would like to move away from that and use %logonserver% if that is the correct way.
