They have got a patent listed since 1997 though so old technology

not so sure about IT, but drug company patents last 25yrs. Stuff hitting the market now is patented 10-15yrs ago !

Microsoft got hit for $521million over the Eolas patent. That was filed in 1994. Somewhat ironically, we will be having the implications of the patent litgation of the Microsoft vs Eolas lawsuit hitting our WSUS servers this very month.
