New Primary School Server

A primary school which I look after is looking for a new server to replace its current (and fairly ancient) one. I've been sorting out specs but I thought I'd quickly ask what people on here would recommend? I've got a budget between 1000 - 1500. It's a small primary school with around 75 workstations in total. Storage isn't an issue at the moment but they would like to future proof themselves. The new server will be acting as DC > DNS > DHCP etc. I've been advised to move storage over to a seperate file server aswell. What do you think?

We buy server 2008 and then install Server 2003 onto them

Does dell charge for giving the 2003 license, i know there was an issue where they were not happy to downgrade or are these your own licenses?

If you are looking at buying a Dell branded server be sure to give us a shout as we tend to be able to save schools money buy purchasing through us instead of direct!

I usually just get the machine from Dell then pick the licences up seperately.

 

We use a company called Pheonix Software. They informed us taht if we bought Server 2008 we can install Server 2003 and still be licences.

 

We do the same with office, Buy 2007 and install 2003
