kington datatraveler receiving power but not showing up

I have been handed a Kingston USB stick that when plugged into any machine recives power from the USB drive (The LED Flashes) but the computer does not see it, does not come up in explorer or diskmanagement.

 

Is there any hope of getting the data off using any kind of obscure methods?

in all likelyhood - when flash memory starts behaving weirdly like this it's because it's knackered.

 

have you tried it under a linux install though? or a live recovery disk?

Have tried in ubuntu, BartPE Winternals, UBCD & it does not show p in device manager...

On Ubuntu, what does dmesg say when you plug it in? plug it in, then type "dmesg" in a terminal - the last few lines should be about the usb device you just plugged in.

dmesg says a lot of things, not sure exactly what I was looking for but I tried dmesg on a terminal with the usb NOT plugged in, ran another terminal with it IN and they are exactly the same.

can you take it apart and make sure that the memory chips legs are all making contact with the PCB ( pull it up or push it down ) not too hard though and see if you hold it in a certain position if that helps ? possibly re solder the memory chip legs to the PCB - not for too long otherwise it will burn the memory chip out.

Have taken it apart, the connections are all solid.
