Is this different on a motorbike? yeah, you want to shift the weight forward a bit, and hitting the front brake first pushes the weight onto your shoulders (therefore the handlebars and front wheel) which allows you to put the rear brake on without it locking or sliding. takes a while to get used to

I think I probably use about 70% front brake, 30% rear. Unless it's wet when I'm 50/50 or if I'm in slow traffic I tend to only dab the back brake. Anyone ride with linked abs? how does that work?

It definitely feels like it meets the limit (after the VFR that is...) interestingly this says it is 48Bhp - wonder if mine is restricted... Domino Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 my first proper bike was an ER-5 great little bikes, treat em right and they'll run forever. started off restricted too - its a fuel line restriction usually, but its not too hard to get removed at a later date either.
ChrisH Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Congrats on the test. You will need a restriction kit on an ER5 to get it to 33 BHP. On paper it is 40 odd. Although realistically it is probably more like 33. A restriction kit will prob cost about £100 fitted by a mechanic as you need one to sign the certificate. The restriction is just some big washers that sit on the inlet to make them smaller thus less air/fuel getting in at once. Well worth it over a 125 though. You can restrict most bikes although theres not much point in restricting anything too big. As for braking you have to apply it gradually. If you grab a hand full of brakes the wheel will lock and the bars will be ripped out of your hands and down you go. You can also flip a bike like this as demonstrated by a family member who was in front of me on a roundabout and a bus back end swerved towards him, too much brake and up he went nearly vertical onto the front wheel then sideways to the floor. Not pretty.
