Butuz Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 (edited) Chris (Duke) is right in what he says about firmware on the drives and storage vendors restricting third party drives being installed in their storage arrays. Phil Phil I take it this is something Oracle has introduced into the Oracle branded 7110 firmware? My 7110s are still running on SUN's branded firmware and they accept and can use any type or brand of drive whether it be SAS, SATA or SSD. If you do not have an oracle support contract on your 7110 then I feel sorry for you as if you want to create a new support contract they will charge you in order to send an Oracle engineer out to assertain if your 7110 is able to be contracted i.e if it has been fiddled around with, which by the sound of it yours has. Expect the one of cost of this to be as much as, or possible more than the 7110 is worth, plus the standard yearly support contract on top. Oracle are soo nice to education customers. Duke Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 My 7110s are still running on SUN's branded firmware and they accept and can use any type or brand of drive whether it be SAS, SATA or SSD. Heh, never knew that. When I mentioned it I was just making an assumption. NetApp have locked down their disks for years, even Dell did it for a while until the big backlash. Although I hate the inflated disk prices, I can see why storage companies force the use of their own firmware - if they make use of very low-level functionality in a disk controller and then the disk manufacturer suddenly changes or drops support for that feature, guess who gets blamed and has to fix it? I'm not excusing any other behaviour on costs though.
Hanson Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 ok, try to add old disk, i hope it still alive )) How do you think after unconfig Raid and then config it back maybe my new disk (seller said that disk is supported) start working??
Hanson Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 Sun, Server, Sun 390-0449 300GB - 10000 RPM SAS Disk Drive, RoHS:Y Sun Blade X6270 M2 Server Module (X6270) Blade that disk don't work
Butuz Posted November 9, 2011 Posted November 9, 2011 BE CAREFUL if you unconfig the raid and then create a new config (as opposed to importing the config) you will lose all data. Butuz
Hanson Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 can i login on solaris consol?? or just only storage console?
Duke Posted November 16, 2011 Posted November 16, 2011 You can get a root-level shell I think but it's unsupported. I can't tell you the command but if you Google it then it's easy enough to find.
Hanson Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 just print shell and i log to solaris console ))) dettachу fauled disk from pool and format when format end on Sun start Led only green, and error disappeared and start Scrub status now on device status Disk 10 Faultred (Corrupt or invalid data)
Duke Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 So it got rid of the error initially and started a scrub, but after/during the scrub Disk 10 was marked as faulted? Is this the original disk or a new disk?
Hanson Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 it's original disk now i have in maintanace=>problems no problems. waiting when scrub end (think it will be tomorow) what does that mean Scrub status?
Duke Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Hmm, that would still suggest you've got a failed disk. The scrub is a good thing and basically checks for any errors on the disks/pools, think of it like checkdisk for Windows. Usually when you replace a faulty disk with a working one it will show up as working almost immediately and should not be listed anywhere as faulted. The scrub will then start automatically.
Hanson Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 when in RAID add new disk, i think must start rebuild can i saw it anywere? maybe this error shown untill *rebuild* finished
Duke Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Did you unconfigure the RAID? When a disk fails in S7000, I think it just uses a hot spare (have you got one?) to rebuild the array, then when you replace the failed disk it check it, marks it as the hot spare and does a scrub.
Duke Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 one more screenshot Well that one definitely looks good! Wait for any rebuilds and scrubs to finish then see what you get on the storage screen. Good luck!
Hanson Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 yaahhoooo IT'S WORKING pool back in status online, thanks for everybody, you really help me. By the way, price for branded disk in Russia about 900$
Hanson Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 old disk is working but for reserv need to buy 2-3 new
Hanson Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 95% of operations is Write at first i think it's replications, but after off service nothing chenge, what is it?
Hebdenlad Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 you need to drill down on the disk and see what it is that is causing the performance issue. you can see both reads and writes there plus the percentage of each. Are you replicating to another S7110?
Hanson Posted December 9, 2011 Posted December 9, 2011 it can't show who do that. Yes, i do replication to another 7110, but now i off this service
Duke Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 Do you still have high usage with replication turned off? Failing that is the array doing any kind of rebuild or disk scrub?
Hanson Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 yes, still have high usage, replication off no scrub or rebuild at this time
Duke Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Sorry mate, not really sure where to go from here! I take it none of the traffic on the services ties up with the disk traffic you're seeing?
