Is it possible to put a shortcut on a mac that all users will see on their desktop as it is on windows thru' documents and settings/all users ?

I really do need an easy way to get all the users on the macs to see my shared area on a windows server and I'm stumped!

Thanks

It's possible to add it to the dock, if you have a group of students for example, in the preferences of that group, add the share to the dock -> items.

We have 5 or 6 shared folders on our dock, including one Windows share.

Is this done without the need for groups on a mac server?

Could you expand a little bit please, as this sounds like the sort of thing I need to do. :D

This is the method we use on the server, I wouldn't be sure how to do it on a stand alone machine.

If you need it for a stand alone machine I could look into it for you

You can do it for single user as well, however its more effort picking out the users from the list.

This process is done on a client and connected to the Xserve machine using Workgroup Manager from the Server Admin Tools download.

Connect to the server you want to share and the navigate to the folder you want to share, whether it is Windows or Apple.

Open the Finder Preferences and ensure the Connected Servers check box is ticked. The connected server will show on the desktop.

Open Workgroup Manager from Server Admin Tools and navigate to the group or user's preference panel.

Choose the Dock from the preferences dashboard.

Drag and drop the shared server, which should be showing on the desktop, into the Documents and Folders section in Workgroup Manager.

Click save and your away.
