Hi All,

Just installed edugeek Joomla onto our hosting and I had some issues with the installation. This meant that I had to configure the "configuration.php" file myself.

Now that Joomla appears to be installed and working I get the following error....

An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write!

Any help would be greatly appreciated on this one!

You need to make sure the configuration.php is writable via ftp of plesk depends on your access to your webspace. If you are still having trouble create a blank configuration.php before you go though the install remmebering to make it writable.

We do not host our website internally... I spoke to a man at County, and we tested it by allowing the guest account to have write permissions. This worked, but due to security we can not allow this account to have write permissions.

Is there any way of telling Joomla to use another account?

Joomla should use the www-data user or "nobody" to access and write to files on the server. You will have problems all over if the settings arent correct for the files. I had a linux fileserver and was able to do sudo chown www-data /var/www which worked.

Try setting the owner of your joomla directory / files to www-data or nobody (or whatever the web user is called on the server)

Unfortunately our County hosting uses Windows and they will not allow the Guest account to have write access to any part due to security.
