Hello all.

I am new on here and wanted to see if any of you have experienced nightmares like me with Ruckus?

For my sins I have purchased the Ruckus solution and now want to upgrade my network to extend coverage, which is fine, but there are major issues with the controllers/licences. The controller only supports 25 AP's (which I wasn't told) and we need to purchase new controller and additional licences. I haven't told the VP yet and I am not looking for to. I have had the quote and I am very nervous technician indeed!

I wish I had looked at the other solutions now as I am going to get shot!

Has this happened to you?

Please help, is there anyway around this? As the cost to upgrade is nearly the same price as we paid for the initial set up.:(

Who sold it to you? I can't imagine not being told any limitations..

have you tried speaking to net-ctrl?

I can't give any names out and I wasn't told anything when I signed up. I feel totally 'had'

How unreasonable ;)

You probably weren't told it couldn't make tea and toast either

And fancy them asking for more money for more equipment - the very idea :)

Looking at other posts by OP it seems they've just sprung into life today with the soul raison-d'etre of slagging Ruckus (who've had nothing but pure un-adultered praise from all Edugeek members who've used them) :)

Hi there

I can help.... I have no idea who sold you the kit and what they have told you but you most certatinly can upgrade the ZD 1025 to a ZD 1050 with a simple upgrade license.

I have done this many times with current clients.

PM me your details I will be more than happy to help.

Cheers

Further to my last post I still dont know who sold you this kit but I can explain a little more the way Ruckus works.

All Zone Director (controllers) are purchased based around limitations on the number of access points you can manage

ZoneDirector 1006 = 6

ZoneDirector 1012 = 12

ZoneDirector 1025 = 25

ZoneDirector 1050 = 50

This has always been the case with Ruckus, you are also able to upgrade at any time with a new license to take you to the next appliance size in your case 1025 to a 1050.

Just to help the part code you need is:- 909-1050-ZD00

There is also the 3000 series which can go from 25, 50 , 100 and then the 250 license so fully scalable.

In Version 8 which is due for release in April you will even find an evalaution key for 30 days to allow you to upgrade the unit before the purchase to help you while the process is going through.

Out of curiosity what version code are you running, did you speak to your reseller on regular occasions to get the latest firmaware updates and version codes?

Cheers

I'd be tempted to agree but then we've all found this place when we were at a pretty low ebb' so perhaps give the benefit of the doubt.

Certainly Mark has provide all the info' required to deal with the problem so if it's a shill it'll be obvious, and if not, well the problem should be resolved too... Win win :)

Just to say that this very point was made extremely clear when we were considering Ruckus (which we did purchase). Im nearly half way through installing and its performing well so far.

We were also very well informed about everything whilst purchasing, and after an initial 20 minute setup the only issue I'm having is the cleaner turning off one of our points! Haven't heard a peep from any of the wireless users, silence is bliss :)

I have been on hold now with Ruckus Tech Support for over 20 mins now and losing the will to live........arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh :mad:

what's the issue you're having exactly...?

if its just you wanna purchase more licences tech support isn't the best place to go...

sorry but I fail to see your beef with Ruckus surely it's with whoever may have misold you the equipment and licencing.

As has allready been pointed out you do not need to purchase another controller just the licence upgrade for the one you have and any extra access points you may need.

It's not a failing on ruckus's part that you may now need additional points.

I fail to see where their tech support will help with that?

You've been offered help from our sponsors on here who sell ruckus kit so I suggest you take them up on it.

Agreed Technical Support will only aid you with problems not a license increase, I have offered many times to help you with this but still not heard from you.......talk to me.

When you purchased the kit I am under the impression you have purchased direct support with Ruckus is this the case?

If not what version of support did you buy?

With a secondary school I would always go with the bigger controller. Some one made the wrong decisions when specifying the system. With all managed systems you have to buy licensing, new AP's and a new controller if not sized right.

AP's dont match up with the licences

So what do you see in this section of the gui for the ZoneDirector as this dictates the number of access points you can manage.

Go into the boss’s office - stand proud and remind him how the Ruckus AP’s and controller kick arse! And to extend coverage you are adding more AP’s which then is a software upgrade to the Zone Director.

You have 25 AP’s, now adding more – you have an awesome system your just increasing adding manageability.

Mention he is even saving money as with other vendors additional AP’s mean additional controllers. Here it is only a software purchase.

Don’t forget to mention to the boss how roaming users have no issues when using the Zone Director to dictate AP association.

Then tell him going to lunch. : )
