I expect this is something stupid but I have just resurrected an old Windows 2000 machine for the staffroom. I've tried using local and group policies to set the proxy details but it isn't working. Is this a Windows 2000 issue?

You could always set it manually within Internet Explorer - Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings

Alternatively, the Group Policy for this is exactly the same as for XP/2003. Just join the machine to the domain, and the move the computer object (within Active Directory) where it needs to go.

It's a shared computer in the staff area so I don't want to do it for each potential user. If I set a local policy using GPEDIT it works for users who logon locally but when logging onto the domain it doesn't pick up any group policies. I'm going to upgrade it to XP anyway, so that should fix it. I'd just like to understand what's going on. The server is 2003.
