I hate stories like this, especially when they contain lines like

In an incident which further sparked concerns over the misuse of Google Earth application for felonious purposes

So let us ban glasses as he could have gone for a walk and had a look! Also I'm not sure of the connection with Google Earth unless he admitted using it to look for the lead on the buildings. Using Google round here he'd be hard pressed to tell what was a roof, let alone that it was lead. How many bets he actually used it to find the addresses or something similar and 1+1=5? Grrrrr.

We had a spate of lead thefts from schools around here last year and the police think the crims used GE.

Here's a likely site to nick lead from if any crims are reading:

51°29'57.57"N

0° 7'28.98"W

on Google Earth ;)

Hi,

The theft of lead and other scrap metal should slow down a bit now.

We used to sell a lot of rapid deployment CCTV for this type of thing. But with the price of scrap as it is its not so much of a problem.

In fact we have had an example of where someone actually dumped scrap metal in a closed DIY store we look after......never had that before! When the price goes back up I bet they plan on returning for it.

I suspect burglars will be breaking into prison soon - regular meals, heating, sky football (available in many prisons).....

PS - someone just reminded me that last year we actually had a local authority ask if we could spot burglars by using clever software on Goodle Earth - that Jack Bower has a lot to answer for.

Lol, we've had that with people thinking Google Earth is 'live' - FFS!

With a bit of photoshoppery, an interface mockup and an animated gif ............

Hi,

I like lateral thinking......

We could launch a new service?

Want great accomodation? three free meals a day? Entertainment on tap? Need a new boy/girlfriend?

Send us your photograph and geographic location and we can "fit you up" within hours.

I am sure we can "deploy" some CCTV cameras and get some great images......along with the GE image it would be a done deal. And I don't need any engineers travelling the length and breadth of England (- the MD would love it!) Just a copy of photoshop and a guilty plea from the client.

Burglars could even be famous....we could place them anywhere - imagine the street cred for being caught at the Taj Mahal, or The Pentagon.....or?

Police crime statistics to die for! Government cleans the streets.....unemployment falls. Everyone's a winner.
