I have a maxtor onetouch 320gb which cost me about £90. I am happyish with it.

The one problem with maxtor onetouch is it doesn't backup certain folders like local settings, so it wont backup my pst file unless I change the location of where its stored.

I want to get something similar for my parents PC, but it'll need to be simple and backup pst files without changing the location.

Can anyone recommend a solution similar to the onetouch which will backup pst files??

Can't you configure the onetouch software to back up the folder you wish?

Seems a bit limited if you can't!

Alternatively, I wrote a small script for a client to back up various directories to an external usb device.

Be aware though, that regardless of what you do, you'll need Outlook to be closed in order to access the PST short of shadow volume copying or so.

I'd move the .pst - I've done this at home and at school and it's not difficult.. (I didn't want the few Outlook users I have with their ,pst folders in their profiles, so they are set up on their Home drives)

I'm surprised that you cannot specify exactly what you want to backup with your maxtor.

Take a look at the Western Digital "My Book": It's what I have been using for a few years and I get on with it very well.

I've used Buffalo's stuff which usualy comes with Memo backup software (think thats how its spelt) and it seems to do everything I ask for it.

Cheap eSATA-connected RAID-1 box. "Backing up" consists of yanking one disk out and putting another in.

I use a NAS Box (Netgear Storage Central) with a simple BAT file which backs up when I go to bed, then shut's my PC down at the end of the process.
