Spell check

How can allow spell check in Word 2000 on a protected document?

How is it protected? a little more info wouldn't go amiss thank you

I have set up a template with a form entery. I have password proctected it. But when doing so the spell check is grayed out and I need pupils to be able to check their spelling while they complete the form.

Would it be better to apply NTFS security on the file rather than password-protect it?
