Disable Internal Speaker

Our kids have found some command which when held down makes the internal speaker bleep repeatedly and is driving our staff up the wall.

 

i have found out how to do this manually but cba to do it on all stations. does any one know of a way to do this globally?

What is this command? You should be able to disable it in the BIOS, or failing that, disconnect the internal speaker by opening up the PC.

Is it the same sound as Shift (Sticky - Keys), there a few others i cant remember off top of my head?

it works from just having desktop active

Yeah it works here too. I'm guessing maybe someone is running a batch file from their home drive or memory stick?

 

Have you enabled - User Config > Admin Templates > System > Prevent access to the command prompt, then specify 'No' as the value.

LOL I was just going say, why do the pupils have access to command prompt,

 

because that is bad, even thou task manager is disabled, well command prompt is enabled for the staff so if a program goes into not responding, i Kill the process off in command prompt but for obvos reason i keep that technique to myself and not let other staff know it or show them command prompt at all.

 

but with pupils here command prompt and task manager is disabled.

the staff are finding out what command is being pressed this lesson.

 

to disable locally you can go to device manager show hidden devices then on the bleep option and stop it. but this would have to be done locally per station, really cba then remember each rebuild

As system beep is hardly used for anything you can safely disable it. Luckily it is really easy.

 

Go into device manager and click the 'view' menu, select 'show hidden devices' then expand the 'Non-Plug and Play drivers' section. Right click on 'Beep' and either disable or delete it.

 

Job done.

 

You can probably script this with devcon on machine startup.

 

This reg key may also work but it could just be for the citrix error that I found it under:

its toggle keys (we think)

 

holding down num lock for 5 secs then when you press a lock key (caps, num, scroll) it bleeps

 

with RM ones its a very loud

agreed. Our Dells have internal speakers...release catches, crack the case oen a few inches, reach in and yank. Sorted.
