Since the end of last week we have had a problem with staff accessing their marksheets on SIMS. When they goto Focus -> My Marksheets or Focus -> Assessment -> Marksheet entry a error is generated:

Fault Code: 3561-6934-6000

The type initializer for SIMS.Processes.DocumentManagement threw and exception : System.TypeInitializationException

We've tried various fixes from Capita/LA Support none of which have made a difference. I've tried removing SIMS and .NET Framework and reinstalling them - nothing. Today i resorted to rebuilding the server which has the client on it.

A bit of background on our network - teaching staff access SIMS using 2 terminal servers which have the client on. With the same user this only happens on one of the 2 servers.

The only rights a normal teacher has is:

Class Teacher

Assessment Operator - although i'm told that class teacher has enough rights for entering grades on marksheets

Anybody got any ideas?

Is it a problem for all staff or just a few? Changing permissions could cause a glitch or maybe a profile issue, how are profiles handled between the terminal servers?

Can you test it out on the client that is installed on the server itself? Or, install the client on a regular desktop. I'm assuming if it works there the issue is with one of the terminal servers.

I've narrowed this problem down further. The error is only generated for normal staff (ie: those without admin rights) and only when they log onto a terminal server session. It doesn't matter who logs onto SIMS.

So, It's down to premissions. When you goto Focus -> My Marksheet Entry what is SIMS trying to access or do that it can't. I've looked at the permisisons on the SIMS.net folder, Windows/Temp, C:\Temp and everything is correct.

Any ideas what i'm missing?

Cheers

Phil,

I had a case logged because initially I suspected it to be a SIMS problem, but it looks more and more like a Windows problem, something I guess is outside of Capitas remit in terms of what you'll support?

what about the app data folders, and ones tied to Office, as marksheets tie into excel at some point don't they.

When I rebuilt the server, I didn't get round to re-installing office - so that be ruled out too!

Edit: I've also now installed office and i'm getting the same error. I don't think it is to do with the app data folders because I'm not getting to the stage where I could export a marksheet.

VISTA?

If that appears anywhere, permissions could be an issue....

Even though its via TS?

I'd be inclined to start running Filemon or Regmon to see what it's trying to do.

Its gives the group you specify permission to all the relevant stuff sims needs such as files and reg keys. It's only usually used to make sure updates go smoothly when the logged on user is not an admin. It is worth a try though it wont do any harm.

It should be in your setups folder on your server usage:

 simsperm yourdomain\simsusergroup

It uses subinacl to set the permissions.
