Er, ok. How do i restore a backup of zimbra!!!

Ok, So I have been trying to get word filtering to work for my zimbra install BUT I must have cocked up somewhere as now I can't send and receive emails!

I have logged on to the admin page and the mta service isn't running. Go figure.

I have tried a reboot to no avail.

i have brought back my original "master.cf" file but still it doesn't run.

SO i thought well i do need to know how to recover from a disaster at some point :D

How would i go about recovering a backed up and tarballed /opt/zimbra folder!

Thanks yet again!!!

Crud,

It's much worse than I thought.

After installing a couple of scripts and noticing that they were trying to send a mail out with sendmail I went and installed sendmail-bin and mailx. Duh!

I think this uninstalled postfix.

As when i tried to start it with kmounts advice I was told that postfix was not installed.

I guess I'm going to have to reinstall and configure it again!

Bummer

kmount: Zimbra installs put everything (including postfix) in /opt/zimbra. To restart Zimbra's postfix, I think you need to run zmmtactl reload. Log files will be in /opt/zimbra/log/.

I'm on ubuntu server.

Wow that is a long list...

Just before I send it I have just started to reinstall postfix, so it is showing in the list. Do you still want to see it?

Argh,

I don't know what I did apart from uninstalling mailx and sendmail and then installing and uninstalling postfix but eveything is ok again now!!

Thanks guys for your rapid responses!

My head is spinning now even thought this is just a test server!

Relax, webman's a zimbra god.

We've been running a "test" server for a few months now just with my team on it and we're finding it a lovely experience. (I'm glad webman was there for me too!)

Thanks guys! Don't forget Geoff & CyberNerd as well - they've both been running it longer than me and know their way around Linux more than I do :)

An in-situ upgrade fixes a lot of broken zimbra problems.

Try executing the installer again, it will detect the current mail dirs and prompt you to upgrade - you can do this with the same version eg 5.12 to 5.12

copy the folder first

It would be really usefull if there was a step by step guide on how to install zimbra on the latest version of ubuntu server.

I did find an old guide dating back to 2007 but got very confused at one point.
