Website asking for flash 7 or better when flash 10 installed - CC3

Has anynone else had this problem?

Browsing to certain websites results in an error telling the user that they need flash 7 or greater to run the falsh app even though flash 10 is installed on the workstation - on a CC3 workstation?

 

It's not a massive priority for me as the teacher with the problem is very needy - argh!

 

Iv'e been on my own for 4 weeks as my tech is off long term sick, all staff have been asked to be a bit more thoughtful about what they request, always raise the job on the helpdesk and not to approach me in the corridor.

 

It's only 9:30 and already I have had...

4 students asking for password changes.

Can you turn the projector off for me as I don't know how to do it.

Can you print this off for me as I don't know how to do it (Head of ICT)

Can you transfer these pictures off my cam to the shared area.

In the corridor "Can you set up the hall PC next thursday for me for an assembly.

To begin with I would try narrowing it down to a possible source - does it just happen to that particular user on just one machine, or on all machines they log on to? Also, try logging on as a test user account to the machine, visit the same websites and see if the same error occurs.

 

Does the Flash 10 package work for majority/all of your other users on websites that need it?

I seem to remember this was reported as a known issue a few weeks back and Adobe were promising to fix it...

 

There might be an update but one that requires the EXE version of Flash as that always seems to be ahead of the MSI.

Off topic slightly but the alan testing software reports flash 10 as flash 1 and tells you it needs upgrading. It does work though

This may be the websites fault and not anything on your systems.

Quite a few websites only check the first number of the flash major version, so in this case the website is requesting what version of flash your systems have installed and is only seeing "1" instead of "10"

This is poor programming and what's even worse is adobe's own website had flash files that did this!

 

You could try reverting back to flash 9 for now and trying the websites again. I'm not sure if you can modify flash 10 to misreport it's version.

Some websites have a flaw in the implementation of flash through JavaScript this happens when the javascript sniffs for a flash player but is only configured for 1 digit so flash players up to 9 work once it gets to 10 it only sees 0.

 

 

Unfortunately their is no work around that I have come across apart from to inform the webmaster of the website.
