EeePC wireless connection

We've just got an Asus EeePC with Xandros on it and out of the box I have to say I am very unimpressed with it's wireless capabilities. I need to connect it to our wireless network which uses a radius server and after many hours trawling through Google results I am starting to get a little bored! Every time I think I have found what looks like it may work, it's a 4 page document about editing this, creating that, downloading and installing half a dozen things and assumes that I am a complete unix nerd and will know all of this already. Does anyone know if there is a simple way to connect it to our network, other than installing XP?

Is it the 4g model? Are you using WPA? I had issues with ours, 5 minute fix is:

 

ctrl+alt+t

sudo synaptic

check for upgrades (might have to stick your proxy settings in first)

scroll down to the atheros_swan_module

mark for upgrade

apply

I admire your perseverance with Xandros. Many people would have given up long ago.

 

Unfortunately the version of Xandros that is already installed on the EeePC doesn't fully support all the hardware. You are probably better off with one of the community Linux Distros that have been specifically created for the EeePC.

 

Ubuntu Eee, eeeXubuntu, Eeedora, Pupeee & Cruncheee all work "out of the box".

I think you should get your boss to sort it out. After all, he gets paid all that money and does nothing all day long.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. I installed Cruncheee and it gave several more options than Xandros had and it now looks like me and my boss (thehomee) should be able to get it connected now.

If you switch back to Xandros - I had these emails back from ASUS about wireless problems wiht our 4gb Eee - ours wouldn't connect to a WPA wireless network at all and now it works fine - Don't understand linux that much so don't know exactly what the first update does all I know is that it fixed it!

 

Firstly..

1: Access their Terminal via CTRL + Alt + T

 

2: Use the following commands:

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get upgrade

 

Reboot

 

Then..

 

 

Go into the terminal - type su and enter the root password

 

Type in "apt-get update" to update the package repository info.

 

Type in "apt-get dist-upgrade" to update OS.

 

Reboot

 

 

Once you have done the above go to add / remove programs > settings > scroll down and find the new wireless update pack and install it.
