Little-Miss Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 (edited) I've just been told i need to decide nowish how we plan to have a projector placed in our hall so some elctricians can place some power sockets. Its a tall hall so i think if it was ceiling mounted to get the right picture shape etc it would have to be quite far back or have a good keystone option if you know what i mean. Plus bagsy not cleaning the filters!! So, then there's short throw...Is this suitable in a assembly hall? Can you get arms that fold against the wall? Help! Edited March 3, 2009 by Little-Miss

I would get a quote of the project installation company (assume they can do it quick and for free). Had a lovely local company that used to be quite good, even offered to throw in free annual maintainance (ie they cleaned the filtered whilst I have a nap) 1

witch Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 If the throw is short enough - you don't need a folding arm Otherwise, you can put the ceiling mounted projector in a protective cage or have it on a motorised platform that goes up into the ceiling. I agree though, get quotes - ask your LEA for approved projector AV type companies

pbrian49 Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 (edited) We had a projector and screen fitted to our hall in 2005, the projector is a sanyo PLC-XT16 (now out of production but this is the link to the pdf for the spec Instruction Manuals - SANYO EMEA ) It is mounted on the rear wall and back projecting onto a Da-Lite motorised screen which is fixed to the ceiling above the stage. It's like a normal projector to make it go bigger you've got to move it further from the screen. If I've read the details for that bracket correctly (they're a bit vague), the biggest it can go with that bracket it 60". I'd get an AV company in to come up with some ideas.

The trouble with that sort of arrangement is you're expected to 'set it up' every time it's used. It's also not idea if you want to get a long way back to project a big image. The end result is the equipment gets used less. In our hall we have a ceiling mounted projector with a dedicated desktop PC. We've also got an AMX control panel which controls the projector, dvd/video player and the sound. The net result is a system so easy teachers and students can just go and use it without giving any notice. The equipment is probably used daily.

Hehe the last place i worked in we had a similar system a ceiling mounted projector and a desktop in a big cabinet and we were still expected to "set it up" you just can't win sometimes!!

It's the cost of the scaffolding that starts hiking the price!
