Burlington, Wiltshire's Underground City

Hi folks

 

Came across this BBC article yesterday afternoon.

 

Burlington is a "35 acre, secret subterranean Cold War City that lies 100 feet beneath Corsham."

 

I found the video tour and photo gallery quite interesting. A link in the comments also lead me to other Urban Exploration websites, such as:

Spent much downtime looking through those sites. Very very cool. Can't remember which one it is but but one of them managed to get a visit to an old missile silo base. Never even realised we had them over here! They have found some very interesting places to get down into and it is a whole chunk of history in itself. Came across a site last week that covered old rail stations that was interesting (didn't realise there was such competition between the old private companies to the extent of building a station in an area just to stop others being allowed within certain distances) but this had a link on to old Underground stations in London!

 

Another one for those interested is Subterranea Britannica

 

On a similar vien there is also Secret Bases which uses Google Earth and online mapping tools to show interesting, unknown features from masts, towers and golf balls to tunnels, hidden bases and entrances!

Yeah I agree, TechMonkey. What else does this country have that us civilians know nothing about? Gotta love Google Earth

Me and a few friends discovered Subterranea Britannica a couple of months ago and have been looking at the local Nuclear Monitoring stations. You'll be surprised at how many there are, most are locked but some are open and you can go inside them. They're just 15x15 rooms but some have the tables and chairs still inside!
