Why should we use Moodle? Presentation to management

Good morning

 

My headmaster has asked me to provide a very brief 'bullet point' presentation covering why we should use Moodle.

 

We don't currently use any VLE and I have very limited experience with Moodle but like it so far. The trouble is I don't know enough about it to provide said bullet points. I need to do this today.

 

Does anyone here have any sort of presentation that they would share with me, or perhaps point me to a suitable link?

Perhaps your head should be providing you with a list of what they want out of the system first!?

 

A few years ago I was given a very short deadline to get a VLE in, we rushed it, bought in Kaleidos (RM being the only ones to get in to see us within the deadline) and several years later nobody is using it..........

 

It's a PITA but if I were you I would fight as much as possible not to rush into this - also you need teachers on board or have SMT encouraging them to use it!

 

As for Moodle, sorry not much experience there!

Well i'm the Moodleman at my workplace and it's pretty darn good so far. Yes it's massive and the possibilities are huge, but until some content is provided by teachers there really isn't a lot to do.

It's down to the teachers to give Moodle the backbone, without their input and work it really isn't anything but a glorified webspace.

 

Talk to your head, explain what actually it is about, setup a test moodle server (very easy to setup) and start playing with it. It's very hard to explain Moodle without actually doing something yourself, it's an active learning process for all, inc staff and students.

Rest assured I won't be rushing into any implementation as it's me that would take the flak if it went wrong!

 

The situation is that the head is attending an IT strategy meeting (without any IT people present of course!) tomorow where he has to give a brief presentation on where we see 'IT' going in the near term. There are several subjects, VLE being only one. I just needed some presentational concept material in a hurry. Thank you very much for your help.

 

We probably will go down the moodle route in due course, probably from September but it will depend on input and support from the staff, one or two of whom are a IT illiterate!

 

It will happen and I'm sure I'l be a regular on here from now on.
