RDP problem on Windows PCIgina.dll

Hi

 

I am having a problem with one of our windows 2003 servers where all of a sudden I am not able to login using RDC.

 

It comes up with the following error but it comes up briefly and then immediatly exits out of RDC.

 

The error is:

 

You cannot initiate a Remote Desktop Connection because the Windows logon software on the remote computer has been replaced by incompatible software PCIgina.dll

 

To correct this problem, please have the administrator of the remote computer contact the program vendor for a version that is compatible with Windows.

 

I found a knowledge article on the microsoft support website but wasn't very helpful.

 

Has anyone suffered this problem and is there a way to resolve. Quite suprisingly I wasn't able to find a solution using google.

Suggests someone's installed something like PC Duo which has replaced the msgina with this modified one.

 

You can modify this back in the registry but it'd be better to find the app and remove it properly.

GINA is the windows login dialog. [Graphical Identification and Authentication]

 

It is either corrupt or missing or it has been replaced by malware designed to gather your password.

 

edit: this is almost certainly caused by PC DUO which uses pcigina.dll rather than the standard msgina.dll

Ahhhh

 

that would make sense, we do have netsupport installed on this machine as our LEA need to access it when we have problems. I will try to uninstall it tommorow.

You don't need to uninstall it and this may not work anyway, just follow the instructions in the technical document to make a registry change.
