Allow users to see only the course they are enrolled in

As part of the build up to the 14-19 diplomas I've been asked to give access to our Moodle VLE to some pupils from another of the schools in our group. I don't want them to see or acces any other courses; is there a way of achieving this?

Unless I'm missing something - doesn't the use of enrollment keys on your courses do this for you?

You could make them into a special group and not let them view courses in the group permissions. Then in the courses you want them to see override the permissons on that course.

I'm not 100% that this is the correct setting, but in "front page settings" we have

"Front page items when logged = List of Courses"

 

and users only get to see courses that they are enroled onto (we have 1500 courses auto generated by SIMS)

 

users don't get to see "course categories" but I think they probably could 'get to it' if they new the URL. not sure, if someone could confirm....

The problem might be that this is not setup. If you set these up you will lock users out of the courses that they are already in.

If users are already enrolled on a course then adding an enrolment key for new users will not block out those that are already in it.

i can verify this - I have enrollment keys all all my courses to stop people seeing them

Thanks. I did eventually settle on this answer through experimentation.

The particular bunch of pupils who are from another school are some of the worst behaved I've seen. It seems that our sister school has used the opportunity offered by the 14-19 diplomas to offload some of its troublesome pupils on us for a couple of days a fortnight.

I don't think this school has a VLE at the moment, though they may be going down the LEA offering, Uniservity. If they do they'll be the only secondary school in our borough to do this, as far as I can tell.

As there are only 9 of them so far it's not a big deal, but I will have to get something in place shortly, and to be honest it's one of those items I'm putting at the bottom of a big pile. I'll turn it over from time to time.

It's right at the top of mine to show a proof of concept. I'll let you know my finding as soon as have something.

if it were me I'd just bung them all onto a csv file and upload and enrol them straight into the 14-19 course and then shut them out of any other courses.
