Network Drives

hi there our admin have been using a network share for months now no problem at all.

 

then this morning tried to backup a piece of software that we use for timetabling and wouldnt have it.

 

it comes up not enough free space. so i checked the server and there is 55gb free on that drive. tested on a different machine and if i network map it tells me there is 55gb free. and works fine. how ever if i network map on this machine it tells me the drive size is 10mb and the free space is 8.00kb

even if i delete files off it still tells me there is only 8.00kb free.

 

any ideas?

Sounds like you have a quota set per user on that volume for the server and the admin account you are trying to write to it from has used up their's.

 

On the server check the properties of that drive for Quotas.

Another thing that may be possible is that your drive may be 'mis-reporting' - did you check the drive on the server itself?

 

In any case, suggest you run a checkdisk/scandisk on it when you get the chance just as a 'belt and braces' approach.

 

As for checking quotas... if you are Server 2003 R2, you need to use the File Services Management snap-in (I believe there is a seperate one in Administrative Tools for Quotas).

 

In any case, once you find the snap-in (or just use MMC and add the quota snap-in yourself) - the first part of the tree should be quotas, second part should be file screens and the third should be reporting.

 

Expand the first part and let it list the quotas you have.

I don't have a Server 2003 R2 within reach (either remote or local) or I'd be able to give you exact instructions.
