Google Latitude Looks like a peice of "Cool Technology" What are your thoughts on the Privicy side of things, i know there are settings so you can lock it down. but read in the paper this morning some people are ranting about it... :\ Edited February 5, 2009 by EduTech
dhicks Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 What are your thoughts on the Privicy side of things Excellent - now there's a whole system dedicated to being able to prove exactly where I went at all times of the day. Or, at least, where an easily-portable device (mobile phone, GPS tracker, etc) went all day, anyway... -- David Hicks

srochford Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 What are your thoughts on the Privacy side of things, i know there are settings so you can lock it down. but read in the paper this morning some people are ranting about it... :\ I wouldn't worry about it just because there was a rant in the paper; pick up pretty much *any* tabloid paper *any* morning and you'll find that there is someone ranting about something - frequently with no real reason except that big scary headlines sell newspapers.
KarlGoddard Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 fantastic piece of kit... no pissin' clue of how to use it as tech resource with the kids in school, but cool none the less

EduTech Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 wicked well glad i aint the only one that disagree's with the stupid papers and loves it i dont have a clue how it works either... *Finds some Destructions*
TechMonkey Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 A friend has somethign like this all ready on his phone. Not sure of the system but it can show his tracks, where he is and where he has been. It is pretty funky but he does remember to turn it off close to home and leaves it off most the time.
AyatollahPies Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I wouldn't worry about it just because there was a rant in the paper; pick up pretty much *any* tabloid paper *any* morning and you'll find that there is someone ranting about something - frequently with no real reason except that big scary headlines sell newspapers. As long as such technology remains OPTIONAL, then fair enough. When such things become standard I will start to worry. I like being "unavailable and un-locatable".
jamesb Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I just can't understand why someone would volunteer this sort of information. Maybe I'm a natural anarchist or turning into a luddite, but I only reluctantly joined facebook and this sort of public exhibitionism sincerely scares me. The idea of someone being able to look on their computer and track my every step, even if I can turn it on and off at will, is bone-chilling. On the other hand the idea that in emergency I could turn on a GPS tracker has an appeal.
