I really like Acer 531x's, they were really good value and we've got about 40 in school, being abused by kids, and zero mortality apart from a few missing keys... but they don't seem to do them anymore

You could buy from eBay or (probably better) a specialised second-hand dealer, it'd make your money go a bit further.
