denon101 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 I am in process of having a go a Start Menu redirection. Now I have managed to get the start menu redirected. I have created a hidden share with permissions to let everyone have read only access. The redirection works, but I have a problem. The Start Menu is not only in programs, but also duplicated above programs where the windows update and windows catalogue short cuts are. Like this http://www.asj-inc.co.uk/images/start.jpg Anyone have any ideas?
Quackers Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Have you made a subfolder called Programs under the redirected folder? so \\server\share\startmenu\Programs ? It needs the Programs folder.
denon101 Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 Yeah, Here is my path \\server\redirection$\startmenu\Programs
Quackers Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 Yeah, Here is my path \\server\redirection$\startmenu\Programs Can you attach a screen shot of the group policy box where you have put the redirected startmenu folder path in, and also a screenshot of your folder structure from within Windows Explorer, with folders expanded?
ICT_GUY Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 (edited) You need to remove the all users start menu in AD. Its the remove common programs group from start menu. Found under admin templates > start menu. Edited February 4, 2009 by ICT_GUY
denon101 Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 Here you go! http://www.asj-inc.co.uk/images/start1.jpg http://www.asj-inc.co.uk/images/start2.jpg Ta!
Quackers Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 I'm sure your redirection folder is wrong, needs to be set to \\mmserver\redirection$\startmenu instead of \\mmserver\redirection$\startmenu\programs 1
denon101 Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 Works a treat! Ta I is one happy bunny now.
FN-GM Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 You need to remove the all users start menu in AD. Its the remove common programs group from start menu. Found under admin templates > start menu. You dont have to do that, i know many including me that dont.

ehartley7 Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 You need to remove the all users start menu in AD. Its the remove common programs group from start menu. Found under admin templates > start menu. This solved it for me. I only wanted to show the things I selected on the start menu...
