We have what sees to be a insoluble problem. The teachers dont fancy spending any time tagging all their resources (why should they? they know where and what they are already) SMT want IT techs to tag the resources for them, well assuming we have the manpower ,we don't have the knowledge to tag such and such a resource as a Geography KS3 resource a surely the person using the resource and who has the knowledge of their subject needs to be the one tagging? How have other people approached this?

I agree with you, the person who uploads the resource needs to take ownership for it, so if SMT want it tagged then the owner needs to tag it.

We have talmos, and we have had it for a number of years now... and were only just getting round to using it. as the server was outdated now.. i re-built our server on a VM.

but back to topic, us as IT Techs have been uploading the Packages... but the member of staff out selected out of each department will be uploading the content and updating there area when it needs to be.

our data manager will keep all the users and such sync with sims.. and we will just fix any problems that arise.

Our NM will be teaching the person from each area on a 1-1 basis, how to upload content etc.

Were hoping to have it finished ready for september, along with the development of sharepoint

I agree the only person who can tag is the creator or owner. Also tags need to be searchable by lots of criteria so make sure there are enough tags avaialable. If you don't then you never find it. There are often materials in KS4 that are suitable for KS3.

Getting teachers to tag is a good learning curve. I also believe documents should have a reference number in the doc and in its title. Can also be part of a tag.

Many years a go all local authority documents had to have a reference for legal and later quality assurance purposes. That was in the days of 70 wpm typists, no tipex or a spell checker. Unfortunately with technology some good processes have vanished

Our school selected Talmos without any input from us, then worked out what a big mistake it was and wrote off perhaps close to 30k.

Same here, although now it is our Library system server

The person that creates the content should have to select from a small number of tags just to ensure that content is searchable i.e Subject, KS after that someone else in the department or when the resource is used could add more.
