These are great little laptops but I have one thing to say: Be very careful with the hinges as I found out today. This is the hinging mechanism:

As you can see, that one has broken. The hinges are screwed onto the screen lid and are tiny. That is the first that has broken so far, I suspect there may be more. You can get replacement lids but they cost £45 from Dell (part code D4553).

 

At least with the other Latitudes the hinging mechanism is a decent size. That is pretty crappy design work by Compal or Quanta or whoever the hell makes them for Dell.

That'll never be covered by standard warranty. They'll claim user damage and charge us £££££ for the repair.

You never know if you don't try!

 

I've had 2 Dell laptop's fixed FOC because of faulty broken hinges now, they didn't even suggest user damage (which it in no way was).
